In September 2016, Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan committed $600 million over 10 years to fund the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub (CZ Biohub), an independent nonprofit research center that brings together physicians, scientists, and engineers from the University of California, Berkeley, the University of California, San Francisco, and Stanford University to encourage collaborations between these universities. Although they are close partners, CZ Biohub and CZI are separate legal organizations that operate independently. CZ Biohub also funds an Investigator Program that supports the work of faculty at UCSF, Stanford, and UC Berkeley; these Investigators are selected by and associated with CZ Biohub, not the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.
